Friday 3.10: Squats

Friday. Strength, Smolov, back squat 5x7 (across at 120kg).

It's for some more squats. Making sure my lower body is strong enough, and the tool for that is currently Smolov squat program. We had no chance to go to our regular gym at work because there was some sort of big time cleaning in process. We are both having a day off with Pauliina because we are traveling to mid-Finland in the afternoon. So we walked to a nearby gym from our house in the early afternoon for some training, couple's quality time =)



Strength.

  • Smolov, back squat 5x7 (120kg)

I'm still surprised how well my legs have taken this much pressure in the past weeks. I believe there was something like 36.000kg of back squatting in September if I recall it correctly. It could easily be that legs would be so jammed up and tight but that's not the case. Instead, my mobility and range of motion seems to be much better now.


On the other hand, the weights are getting heavier by every session. It's not easy anymore, definitely not easy. I'm looking to hit 6 more heavy sessions in about 10 days. The weights are a bit intimidating, can't deny that. Got to do a lot of mental preparedness before every session to hit the sets.

In today's session the last 2 reps of basically every set were the most demanding. It's obvious that the last reps are the toughest but I mean it was a game changer after 5 reps. It felt like my legs were jello at that point but somehow I managed to get them done. It was also a battle to walk the barbell back to the rack after the set. This squat rack system required me to walk away and back for about a meter as you can see in the video. This is the first set.
